Generative Art From The Math of The Rodin Vortex, The Fibonacci Spiral, and The Gielis Superformula
Though I make this art I stand on the shoulders of the giants that came before me, and still in the shadow of the great math.

Random Thoughts on Sustainability, Causes & Activism
If we were to ask a genie to transform the human race into a
completely sustainable entity, where our impact was completely in step
with the growth of resources and our lives were longer, healthier and
in complete harmony with the planet, the genie would blink his eyes,
grant our wish and turn us all into trilobites. Something similar to a
horshoe crab. But that isn't what we want right?

We can not escape the truth that when we talk about sustainability, we
are often still talking in terms of dominating the planet and still
talking about making the planet what we want it to be, still resisting
what it is. When, if we want to live in harmony with the planet, that
is something we can just do, right now, in our own lives. As soon as
we start projecting that desire into the behavior of others, we start
building authorities that would have to police eating and crapping. I
don't know anyone who would want such an odd and futile job.

Is it possible for us to live responsibly for future generations
without creating more paper work and just be the change we wish to see
in the world? I know I consume far less fossil fuel than ever before
but I don't think that's the measure to responsibly look at. It may be
that the feelings of confidence I feel, that humankind will generate
the tools to use and invent the systems necessary to navigate the path
ahead are more than just feelings. They are the product of work. Not
simply blocking out what I don't want to hear and taking the things I
am able to see seriously is work. Those feelings of confidence I have
in our abilities inform everything that I do. It seems that the only
measure of success that one can rely upon, when considering if they
are living responsibly, is the extent to which they believe in people.
If you give up on us, your behaviors will likely not be as kind to the
future as they would be if you believed in us.

It isn't hard to imagine, that if you don't give up on people, if you
do the internal work necessary to see the world as it is now, accept
it as it is and can spiritually find the perspectives necessary to
maintain your faith in people, and put your lot in with life, that you
may be in complete harmony with the planet. If you can feel good about
being alive now and know that you are doing what it takes to sustain a
vision of life that you believe is whole, it seems to me that
everything you do would be done in the service of that. If you do the
work of finding peace with what is, you may be the highest form of
life possible. Just a thought.

So, about these causes and messages of revolution going around, that
request that the world behave differently than it does, before going
and joining them, it may be best to make sure you still believe in
people, before rushing to action. You may not be on the side you think
you are. If you've given up on humankind, I suggest you find the faith
before lifting a finger to change the world. If you need help with
that, let me know. I'm happy to share what I see.

Sid

Tricky Leaks: Art No Evil
This morning I spent fifteen minutes on a short piece to honor the
people who work for the day an open and free mind is possible. Today
it is not. Even my own mind, curious and capable as it is, even my own
mind is shaped by the information available and, at present, our
available information is shaped more by people's fear of one another
than by people's belief in one another. We don't ask, or tell, we dont
speak truth to power, we say almost nothing to each other, and expect
to be left alone.
"...our available information is shaped more by people's
fear of one another than by people's belief in one
another."

This is the biggest leak, the truth that our world view, yours, mine
and everyone on the planet's are shaped by the untruth of the fear we
have married. For security, we have blinded our world with the fear of
others. Today, we do not allow ourselves to know the world. Our
perspectives have been tainted by this, and all that we think we know
is suspect. We are likely a lost generation of people who will not
experience life in it's fullest potential, we can only work so that
one day our children or children's children will see the world we have
hidden from and choose not to hide it from their own children.

...continue to vision a future without war or poverty. Do
not give up on life.

I hold no human responsible for this and condemn no one. We are all
faced with the same condition. Continue to foster cooperation,
continue to grow peace, continue to vision a future without war or
poverty. Do not give up on life. Invest your time and effort in
developing a love of human beings in all their wondrous diversity. No
matter how they behave or what extent they go to hide the truth. Be
compassionate. The truth is like the sun, people cannot keep it from
rising and of all the "walking wounded" in our war with ourselves,
there are none more tragic than those suffering a life lived in fear
of the truth.

Movement Session: Drawing The Bow

This morning's movement session yielded new insight into how to replace point/click interfaces with flow interfaces. I had been considering multiple ways to make selections (to choose one option from a list of many). This morning I realized I could point by "throwing" the flow. I added elasticity by adjusting the attractor thresholds. This made it possible for me to "aim" the flow with one hand, and draw the flow back with the other hand first. It was a bit counterintuitive to "draw the bow" before aiming, but after a while it was like a shooting gallery. I could hit any edge with a majority of the flow of force. I think it makes sense to use contextual flow behaviors so when navigating, one method of flow is used and when offered a selection, this kind of elastic flow would be offered. I'll use the rate of flow to indicate the behavior shifts, possibly use color but would rather keep the colors simple and have the flow "flow" differently based upon context. This was a great session.
